About Our Team
Brian Booth & Christopher “Butch” Merritt met at the Fine Arms Invitational, a fundraiser that Brian had organized benefitting several charities – including disabled shooters – back in 2009. They have been friends ever since. Brian at the time was a well-regarded sportsman and a pioneer in the wealth management industry. He was also the President of the Union League of Philadelphia’s Rod & Gun Club and ran several outings, including the Fine Arms Invitational. Christopher at the time was the COO & GM of Beretta USA. Brian called Butch when a group of friends from the Union League decided to form a company to solve this problem of securing nice shotguns in vehicles. That is how it all started back in 2014.
Today Brian is the Founder & Managing Member of Sporting Accessories, LTD. He is also an Honorary Captain of the US Sporting Clays Team through the NSCA. As a Class A shooter (aspiring to be AA), Brian will travel the world to compete in most of the Regionals, the National Championships, the World English as well as the World FITASC each year. An avid bird hunter and fly fisherman, Brian will also travel far and wide in search of game birds or rising trout. He enjoys his Scotch, red wine, a good meal and great company.
Christopher is a Co-Founder and Partner in Sporting Accessories and has a great reputation in this industry. In earlier roles he served as the VP-GMM at Orvis, COO & GM of Beretta USA, GM at Oakley Defense as well VP at Dover Saddlery. He is an avid hunter and loves those Georgia Quail. You can find him when he is home on his deck enjoying smoked birds, a fine bourbon and a good cigar.

Origin of Sporting Accessories, Ltd.
Our Crushable Vault line was developed out of necessity. As sportsmen, we know there will be times when our shotguns will be left in an unattended vehicle as we are traveling to a hunt, a shoot or on an extended adventure. That is when the bulk of our firearms are stolen. It was apparent that we needed a smart way to secure our firearms in our SUV’s and pick-ups and this led to the development of the Crushable Vault line that we launched in 2015. These soft-sided cases have a patented, internal locking system so you can securely lock your guns (in their cases) inside the Vaults and then secure the unit to a fixed point within the vehicle or hotel room. The Crushable Vaults provided a unique solution to a problem we all faced and it is this type of thinking that continues to drive Sporting Accessories, LTD today. We realized that there was a real need for innovative, problem-solving gear designed by people who really know this marketplace.
Our Field Vault was a big success when we launched it in 2015. Using the finest materials, such as 18 oz waxed canvas, heavy duty, solid brass YKK zippers and the innovative cable lock system, it could effectively secure 2-3 shotguns in each Vault. But we could not be content. In 2020, when we were shooting at the Nationals down in San Antonio, we quickly realized that it was not enough to secure your guns in the back of your vehicle because vehicles were being stolen at an alarming rate - even with parking lot security. The good news was that the Field Vault could easily be detached from the vehicle and brought up into the hotel room. The tough part was that with 2-3 shotguns and multiple barrels, the Vault was quite heavy, and we found ourselves going for the luggage cart each time we came back to the hotel. This experience led to the development of the Tournament Vault.
The Tournament Vault is a streamlined version of the Field Vault. It is designed to hold a Negrini-style multi barrel shotgun case and it has heavy duty backpack straps for easy carry – as you go through the airport, to your rental and up into your hotel room. We field tested the first prototype at the World FITASC in Orvieto in 2022 and quickly learned that we needed to improve the backpack-ability of this version. The ancient streets of Orvieto were not designed for motor vehicles and proved to be a grueling testing ground for the prototype. We needed to park over ½ mile away from our hotel. I was grateful I had this model with me, but between the heat and the cobblestones we knew we had to improve the balance, the carry points and the padding on the straps. We fared much better with the third prototype for the World FITASC in Hungary in 2023 and in 2024, we were able to donate a final version of the Tournament Vault to each member of the US Sporting Clays Team at the 2024 World Championships at M&M in Pennsville, NJ. This version will launch to the public in early 2025.
All of our products have been developed because of a real need we discovered in the field, on the range or while traveling to a sporting event. And it is with some pride and great pleasure that we introduce you to our newest product lines that fall under the Crushable Vaults, Foraging & Provisions and Sporting & Field. You will see a genuine focus on craftsmanship and while using the finest materials we can source.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about our company.
